The “What’s New” section in the Facebook app’s listing on Google Play reads:
Set reminders for upcoming episodes of your favorite TV shows on participating pages (U.S. only).
The new Android feature continues Facebook’s recent efforts to more closely integrate itself with TV.
The social network reached an agreement with hit ABC reality-competition series “Dancing with the Stars” in September, giving the show’s producers access to the public feed application-programming interface and keyword insights API it introduced earlier that month, and enabling them to display conversations from the social network during broadcasts.
In late September, the social network announced that it would send weekly reports to the “Big Four” television networks — ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC — and a “small number of select partners,” detailing the number of actions (likes, comments, and shares) generated by specific episodes, as well as how many Facebook users were responsible for those actions.
And last month, Facebook extended that initiative to 10 television networks in eight overseas countries.
Researcher eMarketer said in an October report that 15 percent to 17 percent of TV viewers engaged with social networks in real-time about the shows they were watching.
