Activision revealed Skylanders Creator, a companion application for the upcoming Skylanders Imaginators console game. The app will allow users to create their own special Skylanders, called Imaginators, which they can bring to life in the console game by purchasing 3-D printed figures or Imaginator Cards.
In the Skylanders Creator app, users will be able to customize each Imaginator’s appearance, weapons, catchphrase and more. The app will feature a Creation Gallery, where users will be able to browse all of their created Imaginators. Users will also be able to share their Imaginators with others.
In addition to creating new Imaginators within the app, users will be able to transfer their Imaginators from the console game to the app using audio technology.
Elsewhere, the app will allow players to open Timed Chests, which will include new creation parts for their Imaginators. These Timed Chests will only be available at certain times during the day.
Finally, each day, one of the Senseis from the Skylanders Imaginators console game will give players a special Sensei Chest, which will contain special parts that are unique to that Skylander.
Once a user creates an Imaginator, they will have the option to “immortalize” their character in the real-world in three different ways. First, a user will be able to purchase a 3-D printed figure of their Imagintor. Each figure will be created in full color, and will be posed on a base. These figures will be fully playable in the Skylanders Imaginators console game, and they will be enclosed in clear protective domes.
A 3-D printed figure will cost $49.99, and users in North America will receive free shipping. Shipping charges will vary outside of North America. Activision said quantities for the 3-D printed figures will be limited.
Elsewhere, users will also be able to put their Imaginators on T-shirts, with each T-shirt costing $24.99 plus shipping. Each T-shirt will feature a full color image of the Imaginator on the front of the shirt, along with the character’s name, Battle Class and Element. T-shirts will be available in both child and adult sizes.
Finally, users will be able to put their Imaginators on special trading cards called Imaginator Cards. Each Imaginator Card will feature a full color image of a player’s creation, and players will be able to use the cards to bring their Imaginators to life within the Skylanders Imaginators console game.
If a user purchases an Imaginator Card, they will still be able to change the in-game version of the character, in terms of their appearance, weapons, catchphrase and more, and the changes will be saved on the card.
Each Imaginator Card will cost $14.99, and users in North America will receive free shipping. Again, shipping charges will vary outside of North America.
The Skylanders Creator app will launch on iOS and Android Oct. 13 in Australia and New Zealand, Oct. 14 in Europe and Oct. 16 in North America.
