Duke University’s 68-63 victory over the University of Wisconsin in Monday’s night’s final game of the 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship tournament was the most-talked-about NCAA championship game on Facebook to date.
The entire tournament saw approximately 76 million posts, comments and likes worldwide from more than 24 million Facebook users between Selection Sunday March 15 and the climax Monday night.
According to Sports on Facebook, during the final hour of Monday night’s title tilt, 1.3 million unique users per hour were posting, commenting on or liking related content.
The top five social moments during the 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship tournament were:
- Duke wins the championship.
- Duke advances to the national title game.
- Wisconsin advances to the Final Four.
- Michigan State University advances to the Final Four.
- The Round of 64 tips off.
The top five demographic groups discussing March Madness were:
- Women 25 through 34
- Men 25 through 34
- Women 35 through 44
- Men 18 through 24
- Women 45 through 54
And the top five states where the tournament was discussed most were:
- North Carolina
In fact, Sports on Facebook noted that more than one-third of active Facebook users in Kentucky were part of the conversation about the NCAA Tournament on the social network from March 15 through Monday (April 6).
