An unfortunate Superdome reference

Rome_colisseum_1One of the least important aspects of the Hurricane Katrina disaster is that some ads are taking on a whole new—and awkward—meaning in wake of the chaos. It’s something we’ve seen many times before, like during the tsunami when Pepsi pulled the plug on an ad where David Beckham and others played soccer amidst mammoth waves. According to one AdFreak reader, it’s happened again with the ad pictured here for The History Channel’s Labor Day special on ancient Rome, which he found on Yahoo! News as he was checking for the latest news on the dire situation in New Orleans. He commented, “Of course it’s not their [The History Channel’s] fault the Superdome is currently a lawless cesspool of humanity, but it’s always weird when these coincidences sprout up.”
