Nike Skateboarding to Fox Sports: These Great Comic Ads Inspired Ari Weiss Early in His Career

Our chat with DDB's North American CCO at One Show judging

Ari Weiss had great training in comic advertising when he was starting out in the business. From an internship at Goodby Silverstein & Partners in the late ’90s through a stint as a copywriter at Cliff Freeman and Partners starting in 2000, he was around plenty of people—and work—that could make you laugh.

Now North American chief creative officer at DDB, Weiss still sees some of that early comic work as formative to his experience. But as he says in our latest “Best Ads Ever” video, he would encounter a commercial in 2003 that would broaden his horizons beyond comedy and into something grander.

Adweek caught up with Weiss at One Show and ADC judging in Bermuda last month, where he also told us what inspires him outside advertising, and what’s going on at We Are Unlimited, the new McDonald’s agency staffed largely by talent from Omnicom Group, including DDB.

Check out the video above for Weiss’s insights, and his three favorite ads. And see all three spots in full below.
