The top advertising news out of Iowa this week: A woman named Martha Heller “took out an ad in The Gazette newspaper offering 100 ounces of her breast milk for $200 or the best offer.” So far, business is slow. There’s only been one response to the ad—it was a prank call—and state health officials aren’t sure whether such a sale is a very good or safe idea (though it’s not officially against the law). Heller says her freezer is overflowing with breast milk she’s pumped since August, as her 4-month-old daughter won’t drink it from a bottle. Hard to imagine there’s not a market for this stuff, particularly teenage boys who want to gross out their friends. Or people who have kids like this.
