The Internet’s Best GIF Makers Joined Forces to Make This Epic Homage to Taylor Swift

17 collaborators enhanced 'Shake It Off'

What do you get when you bring together some of the top GIF makers in the world? Surprisingly, not a GIF. But you do get one hell of a video.

Seventeen of the top contributors to the addictive subreddit HighQualityGIFs this week unveiled their creative magnum opus, a visually enhanced (and mildly vulgar) version of Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" music video.

Redditor hero0Fwar says the effort was a "dumb idea I came up with that snowballed its way into a pretty awesome project."

The end result showcases not just the talents of dedicated GIF creators, but also the wide range of creative styles and interpretations they could bring to the same subject. Some added in characters from shows like Rick and Morty or Chappelle's Show, while others took the more subtle approach of amplifying the video with kinetic typography.

Here's their creation, which is mostly safe for work, other than the occasional appearance of Reddit's unofficial cartoon mascot Dickbutt:

Here's more from hero0Fwar on how it all came together:

This project was thrown out to a group of Original Content (OC) creators on imgur and reddit.
I originally was hoping to get four or five of us on this project and ended up with seventeen of us.

We divided the video down into sections and each person was assigned a segment. Everyone was given full creative freedom with their clips with the single rule of not messing with the time allowed per clip.

This was a silly idea I had one night and I could not be more pleased with how it turned out.

In case you want to compare, here is Swift's official video:
