With hype at full tilt for the upcoming Transformers feature film, Cartoon Network and Hasbro say they’re reviving the Transformers cartoon TV series. This rivals the resuscitation of Speed Racer as the most unnecessary animated comeback of all time—but it’s Cartoon Network’s marketing plans that really set my nerves on edge. They’re already on probation here in Boston after the Adult Swim fiasco. I for one shudder at what they would attempt for Transformers. Fenway Park turned into a giant Kill-bot? Our famed Swan Boats morphed into Codzillas? Worse yet, they could transform the North End into the South End, leaving me stranded forever ’neath the streets of Boston with no idea how to get home.
