$5,000 Ad Contest Yields the Ultimate 'Tron' Cameo

Crowdsourced Duck Tape spot is a nerdy delight

Crowdsourced creativity finally seems to have made an ad worth watching. The Tron-themed spot below was created as part of Duck Tape's "Stuck on Duck Video Project" open to members of Tongal.com, a site that lets companies outsource their filmmaking to the masses. The winner was a scrappy San Francisco group called Ryactive, which snagged a modest $5,000 prize and, more importantly, a glowing writeup by Wired. Apparently, the secret to building low-budget buzz is to hire talent who already have a track record of going viral.
