TBWA\Chiat\Day has hired Chris Beresford-Hill, a veteran of the BBDO organization, as the new chief creative officer of its New York office.
He begins the new role on Oct. 2, reporting to recently-promoted global CCO Chris Garbutt. The two will partner with New York CEO Rob Schwartz in driving new business efforts, and Beresford-Hill will also join the Global Creative Core, a collaborative group of leaders from across the larger TBWA network.
As part of this shift, executive creative director and global head of art Erik Vervroegen will also take on expanded, unspecified responsibilities in “driving creative excellence” and elevating the agency’s work for its clients, which currently include Accenture, Adidas, McDonald’s, PepsiCo and Nissan, among others.
“Chris has the energy and talent to ignite a creative renaissance in New York,” said Garbutt’s statement. “He’s prolific, charismatic, he’s got New York swagger and he’s ready to excel. His work has consistently become part of culture and makes a tangible impact on his clients’ businesses. He’s a phenomenal talent and we are thrilled that he is joining us in New York.”
Prior to making the jump, Beresford-Hill spent more than seven years at BBDO, where he most recently led creative efforts on the Priceline, Foot Locker, HBO and Guinness accounts. His longtime partner, ecd and art director Dan Lucey, will remain with BBDO.
“BBDO New York is a proving ground for talent that can take on really big jobs,” said that agency’s worldwide CCO and BBDO North America chairman David Lubars. “This is a great opportunity for Chris as well as a chance to leverage his talent within the Omnicom network. We are excited for Chris, both because he’s been a valuable contributor to ‘The Work’ since he joined BBDO, and because he’s a good person. We wish him the very best.”
The announcement of the new hire came in an all-staff meeting this afternoon. “I’m excited to introduce Chris to all of our clients as we continue on our quest to be the most iconic creative company on Madison Avenue and all points beyond,” said Schwartz, calling the new hire “the ideal creative leader to make that happen.”
“I have always loved TBWA\Chiat\Day New York, and have admired the members of this leadership team even before they fully assembled,” said Beresford-Hill himself. “Every conversation I have had in the process has reinforced my belief that amazing things are about to happen.”
Prior to joining BBDO in 2010, Beresford-Hill held top creative roles at Goodby Silverstein & Partners and Saatchi & Saatchi. He was a member of Adweek’s “Creative 100” list for 2015, and he has received a variety of industry awards throughout his career including the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s Visionary Leadership award for the Guinness “Wheelchair Basketball” campaign.
