Madden is so big, he has his own holiday
EA Sports’ Madden ’07 is out now, and it comes with the usual “John Madden is God” type of advertising theme. This time, Wieden + Kennedy invents a new holiday for the man: the Maddenoliday. (Here’s a TV spot from the campaign, via ’boards.) The Web site includes a Maddvent Calendar, which has a recipes section (featuring “Play-Action Punch” but no turducken), a snow globe and more. Maddenoliday seems to be a lot like Christmas, although even more popular worldwide. The “Maddenoliday Around the World” section of the site mentions that “in India, the day before Maddenoliday is spent in deep meditation while contorting one’s body in a series of yoga poses specifically designed to elevate game play.”
