Henry Weinhard’s celebrates 150 years
Man, does this bring me back. As a young man “studying” at Lewis and Clark College (where our two most famous alumni are Markie Post and Monica Lewinski) in Portland, Ore., (more familiar to ad folk as the home of Wieden + Kennedy), I have to admit I consumed my fair share of Henry Weinhard’s brew. (It was always fun to watch the fridge transition from the higher-priced ale to the lower-budget Blitz as money got tigter). Hard to believe that Henry’s, which has been a part of Miller’s portfolio since 1999, is celebrating its 150th anniversary tomorrow, with a toast from Henry’s great-grandson, Henry Wessinger. Wessinger will be toasting the brew at the Rose City’s oldest restaurant, Jake’s Famous Crawfish. I, however, will be celebrating the anniversary on its appropriate date—April Fool’s Day—because Lord knows too much Henry’s often made a fool of me.
