Giving street art the finger

FingerIt’s easy to see street art on every corner of New York, from graffiti to stickering. One stickering campaign is taking an interesting approach though. “Keep your art to yourself next time,” it says, and points readers to www.streetartblows.com. There, if you can make it past a photo of an obscene gesture, appears an anonymous written manifesto. “Going out one weekend with some wheat paste and your digi-cam doesn’t make you a street artist. Posting it on your blog Monday morning doesn’t make you any good.” The site does encourage visitors to send an e-mail to the site to “tell us how we are wrong.” Here might be one way: a stickering campaign that’s anti-street art just adds to the clutter.
