A Virtual Demotion for Time Inc.’s Huey

In Time Inc.’s rush to scrub fired CEO Jack Griffin from its corporate Web site last week, powerful editorial boss John Huey wound up at the top of the organizational chart—this despite the fact that he’s actually one of three people on an interim committee that’s running the company until a replacement for Griffin can be found. The positioning made it look like Huey, who’s known as an independent and behind-the-scenes operator, was running the show on his own.
A Time Inc. rep said Huey’s position at the top was unintentional, and now five days later, he’s is now on the same line as the other two committee members, Chief Financial Officer Howard Averill and General Counsel Maurice Edelson. (The Time Inc. site now mirrors corporate parent Time Warner’s site.)
