In Time Inc.’s rush to scrub fired CEO Jack Griffin from its corporate Web site last week, powerful editorial boss John Huey wound up at the top of the organizational chart—this despite the fact that he’s actually one of three people on an interim committee that’s running the company until a replacement for Griffin can be found. The positioning made it look like Huey, who’s known as an independent and behind-the-scenes operator, was running the show on his own.
