During VidCon, creators had the opportunity to spend two minutes pitching ideas for a series, with the winner’s idea becoming a pilot produced by New Form. About 10,000 people came through the pitch lounge, and 200 pitches were submitted, according to Jodi Flicker, vp of marketing at digital studio New Form.
In the Pitch to Pilot program, fans had until July 13 to vote for their favorite. The top 10 were then evaluated by executives at New Form, TBS Digital and Dunkin’ Donuts.
“We were looking for stories that resonate with our collective audiences,” Flicker said. “We were impressed with the creativity and diversity of the submissions.”
The winner was Eric Jaffe, whose Talking to Myself will be a show in which people with the same name but leading very different lives meet and get to know one another. Jaffe’s pilot will be distributed on TBS Digital in the fall.
“With all the talk about social bubbles these days, it’s exciting to work on a concept that bridges people from all walks of life,” Jaffe said. “This opportunity is a dream come true for me, and I can’t wait to see what we create.”
If it’s a success, Talking to Myself could be picked up as a multiepisode series.
“This whole Pitch to Pilot campaign was to give emerging creators a platform and the tools to share their voice and their story,” Flicker said. “Talking to Myself continues this theme by looking at two individuals who have so much in common—their name—and yet are so different. We get to hear their unique perspectives and see what they have to say.”
