It's a good news/bad news night for The Mindy Project. Fox has passed on a fourth season of Mindy Kaling's series, according to sources.
But all is not lost for Kaling: Hulu is already in early talks to acquire the series for two seasons.
Hulu declined to comment, but the streaming service would be a natural fit for The Mindy Project, as it already has exclusive SVOD rights to the show's three seasons.
Fox declined to comment on the status of The Mindy Project. The network's upfront, where the 2015-16 season will be revealed, is set for Monday.
While the sitcom has struggled in the ratings — this season, it averaged only a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.3 million total viewers — advertisers do like the show's upscale female audience.
The show was also a pet project of former Fox chief Kevin Reilly, who stepped down shortly after last year's upfront. Kaling would tweet "I love you Kevin Reilly," when he previously renewed her series:
I love you, Kevin Reilly.
