GoDaddy Won’t Screen ‘Movies’ on Super Bowl

GoDaddy.com said it has pulled a commercial called “Movies” from Sunday’s Super Bowl telecast on CBS because it could not get approval from one or more of the studios whose films were spoofed in the ad.

GoDaddy had confirmed last month that the spot had been approved by CBS. The ad, featuring Danica Patrick, spoofs the films Weird Science and Flashdance.

In a statement, client CEO Bob Parsons said: “We had received very positive feedback about our ‘Movies’ commercial and are disappointed it won’t air in the Super Bowl. If we are ever able to work this out with the film studios, we’d love to air both the broadcast and Internet-only versions of ‘Movies.'”

The company said the spot would be replaced with one entitled “Spa,” also featuring Patrick, shown receiving a massage from a wannabe GoDaddy girl. That ad is scheduled to air in the first quarter. A different spot, entitled “News,” will air in the fourth quarter, the company said.

CBS reps didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.
