YouTube Launches Locally In Colombia With Partner Program

By Megan O'Neill

Colombia is the latest addition to YouTube’s list of locations, bringing YouTube to a total of 37 localized countries around the world, from Algeria to Yemen.  Colombia is the fourth international country to launch a local YouTube domain (, following Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico.

What does a localized YouTube Colombia mean?  Susana Pabon, Communication Manager for Google in Colombia, explains on the YouTube blog, “With a local version of YouTube, Colombians will now be able to move easily discover content and share local talent from within their country.”

Pabon also points out that in addition to contributing to discoverability, YouTube Colombia also has economic implications.  Colombians can now apply to be a part of the YouTube Partner Program, creating a new revenue channel as a reward for creativity, regular programming and high engagement.

There is already a lot of creativity coming out of Colombia on YouTube, from Esteman’s music to professor Julioprofe’s math lessons.  Here’s hoping that the launch of YouTube Colombia will not only inspire these talented individuals to keep doing what they’re doing and apply for the partner program, but that it will inspire even more Colombians to get on YouTube and start producing great content.

To change your location, scroll down to the bottom of the page on YouTube and click on the ‘Location’ link at the bottom of the screen.  Then, click to choose your country or ‘Worldwide.’
