Teens Prefer Twitter to Facebook (But Instagram is Number One) [STUDY]

Teenagers are a fickle bunch, prone to leaping from one thing to another as soon the latter becomes cool and the former obsolete – in their minds, at least.

The peaks and troughs in social media activity perhaps epitomises this as well as anything, and a new study has revealed that Facebook usage has dropped off significantly amongst teens this year, and it’s Instagram that is picking up the spoils.

In their “Taking Stock With Teens” survey, Piper Jaffray found that just 45 percent of teenagers say that they are now using Facebook, compared to 72 percent in Spring 2014, when Facebook ranked as the top overall social network.

Now, it’s third, behind Twitter, which is used by 59 percent of teens, and Instagram, which is used by 76 percent.

It’s worth noting that Twitter usage has also dipped slightly since the spring, when 63 percent of teenagers were active on the platform. Instagram, meanwhile, is up from 69 percent last time.
