Sequel In The Works For Viral Facebook App Take This Lollipop

By David Cohen

Facebook users took to Take This Lollipop, to the tune of more than 100 million views. How will its potential sequel fare?

Mashable reported that Take This Lollipop creator Jason Zada launched a page on Kickstarter to try to raise $150,000 for a sequel to the viral application, which he hopes to complete before Halloween.

The original Take This Lollipop shows Facebook users who grant permission a video of a seriously tweaked-out guy logging on to their profiles and becoming more and more unsettled by their status updates and photos.

What will the sequel bring? Zada wrote on the Kickstarter page:

The storyline for Lollipop 2 is highly guarded, but we can guarantee that it will be a much more intense experience that the first. The money you donate will fund the production on both sides of the camera. We will be working with a variety of top Hollywood movie and television professionals. Behind the camera, a team of some of the best designers, editors, composers, and developers in the world will bring it all to life.

There are a many costs involved with producing something like Lollipop. The money will go directly to actors, camera equipment, hosting the site, crew, locations, designing, programming, writing, and promoting the sequel. For every dollar we earn beyond our goal, we promise to give you more of everything. Since we have more ideas than we have money, you can help us realize more innovative features by spreading the word and donating money.

We are going to be offering one brand the possibility of sponsoring the Lollipop experience. From product placement to logo placement within key places in the film, we have some innovative opportunities for unique branding. We are seeking the perfect brand that fits with the storyline that is in development. Minimal investment for a branded opportunity will start at $100,000.

At the time of this post, the Kickstarter page showed that 59 backers had pledged a total of $2,326, with 23 days remaining until its Sept. 2 deadline.
