Here They Come: Facebook Announces Premium Video Ads from ‘Select Group Of Advertisers’ (AllFacebook)
Facebook video ads have finally arrived, at least for a “select group of advertisers,” as the social network announced the launch of what it is calling premium video ads and what it began testing last December. The 15-second ads will begin playing on users’ News Feeds without audio, and they will stop playing if users scroll past them. Inside Facebook This may not happen immediately — Facebook notes that these video ads will be rolled out slowly over the next few months. Facebook will also be keeping close tabs on how users interact with these auto-play video ads. The Wall Street Journal Facebook’s cautious approach is based on concerns that video ads could turn off users. But analysts have long pointed to video ads as another potential growth catalyst for the social network. VentureBeat With this new ad unit, TV-focused advertising firm Ace Metrix will reportedly serve as a third-party moderator. The company will evaluate video ad submissions to help maintain quality. Business Insider Facebook’s Instagram unit recently did a $100 million ad-buying deal with Publicis Omnicom Group, a giant ad agency holding company that buys billions in TV advertising every year. The pair will be working developing best practices for ways other advertisers can use Instagram ad products.
