Even if you didn’t watch the U.S. Presidential debate the other night, you’ve likely heard about Romney’s plans to “fire Big Bird.”
Well, two fast-moving University of North Carolina students snapped up firebigbird.com and began selling t-shirts.
Great way to make a quick buck? Certainly. But they’re doing this for charity.
Here’s what Romney said, in case you missed it:
“I’m sorry, Jim. I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS. I love Big Bird. I actually like you too. But I’m not going to — I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for it.”
This Big Bird comment received 135,332 tweets per minute.
And first year University of North Carolina students, Taylor Robinette and Andy Bauer were watching the debate and came up with this great t-shirt idea and immediately got to work. They’re tweeting from @ObamaForBigBird and there are two designs so far – the one you see above and this one:
In our business 500 class we were given $40 and three days and told to make as much money as possible. I decided to sell shirts that said “Eat. Sleep. Dome.” and then under that said “Carolina Basketball.” We sold them on campus and sold over 100 shirts. The project we funded was Make A Wish and specifically this little boy Varuun’s wish to make his very own transformer toy. He lives locally and has leukemia.
And feel free to let people know that they can submit designs to this email address to help with the project!
