Facebook released another updated software-development kit, this time for the Android platform, and improvements include the addition of share dialog, support for the object application-programming interface, and an improved login user interface, all of which had previous been introduced for iOS, and all of which are aimed at allowing developers to more easily implement Open Graph into their applications.
The social network pointed out in a post on its developer blog that 73 of the 100 top-grossing Android apps are integrated with Facebook, and Software Engineer Chris Lang wrote on the topic of the share dialog:
People now have the option to share activity from your apps without needing to login to Facebook first, eliminating up to three extra steps required for login when sharing via the feed dialog. With just one line of code, you can enable people to start sharing in an engaging way that lets them tag friends and share where they are. In addition, the share dialog includes support for publishing Open Graph actions to make it easier for people to tell their stories.
Lang wrote on the object API:
With this release, we’re pleased to announce support for object API that makes it easier to integrate Open Graph into your Android apps. With the object API, you can directly create Open Graph objects and no longer need to host webpages with Open Graph tags.
And on the revamped login UI:
The updated Facebook login UI not only looks better, but our tests also show that it converts at a higher rate. We’ve refreshed the design in the LoginButton control and changed the default text to read, “Log in with Facebook.” Your apps gain the benefit of the redesigned UI without any code changes, and you can still override the default text via localization.
Another addition to the new Android SDK is the ability to publish and measure app events, and Lang wrote that while previously, developers were able to measure installs driven by Facebook’s mobile app install ads, they can now measure the aggregate number of predefined actions such as “add to cart” for ecommerce apps, “level achieved” for games, and other custom events.
Finally, Facebook will populate its custom audiences advertising offering with Android app users following the launch of app user IDs, which will identify app users who have performed certain actions, such as installs or purchases, and add those app user IDs to the social network’s encrypted lists for targeted advertising.
