PumpUp has announced the official launch of its social health and fitness network on iOS and Android. The app has been in beta for six months, and has seen more than one million users join the network, which focuses on photo sharing and community features as inspirations to keep coming back and achieving one’s fitness goals.

In PumpUp, users can follow like-minded individuals and friends, commenting on and liking posts on a Facebook-like news feed. Users are encouraged to motivate each other by sharing inspirational photos or commenting on the success stories (or temporary struggles) other users are experiencing. Users can share healthy recipes, post-workout selfies and more to make the platform more personal for them.

Outside of PumpUp’s social features, the app allows users to create customized workouts, based on their fitness goals, owned workout equipment, location and time available to exercise. Users can keep track of their weight, calories burned, and sports and activities completed outside of the app, among other features.

“We’ve found that providing users with a comfortable community to share photos and selfies around their fitness is an amazing way to maintain an active lifestyle,” says Phil Jacobson, co-founder of PumpUp. “We see this first hand with the PumpUp app; users who share photos are 5x more likely to stay on track with their goals. This proves that community is a truly driving influence when it comes to both getting active and staying active.”

PumpUp is available to download for free on iOS and Google Play. This newest version of the app includes support for hashtags and @replies in comments, a redesigned (simplified) user interface, faster loading times and more.
