Phablets Gaining Global Popularity
The number of phablets shipped last year reached 20 million, a figure that will jump up to 120 million by 2018, according to Juniper Research.
Phablets, those bulky smartphone, tablet-like devices (Juniper defines it as a smartphone with a 5.6-inch display) will be particularly popular in Asian markets, including among South Korean gamers and Chinese video streamers looking for a higher quality screen, the research group predicts.
Android and Windows will drive the emerging category with the Nokia Lumia leading Windows and the Samsung Note series leading Android.
