Nomad Editions: Digital-Only Exclusive Paid Content for Digital Platforms

Rather than bringing existing magazine content to the iPad and other mobile platforms, former Newsweek president Mark Edmiston created a digital-only subscription-based suite of feature publications, Nomad Editions, Wired Epicenter reported.

Nomad Editions is starting out with four publications — Real Eats (food), Wide Screen (movies), Wave Lines (surfing), and BodySmart (health and fitness) — which will not cover news, nor offer links to “traditional” digital content, according to Epicenter.

At the time of this post, all four publications were available on a free trial basis, and there was no information on the Nomad Editions on eventual subscription costs.

Edmiston told Epicenter Nomad Editions runs on a profit-sharing system whereby editors of the publications will earn 5 percent of subscription revenue, in addition to their salaries for being on staff, while freelance writers can make up to 30 percent of subscription revenue, adding that editors can earn up to $70,000 per year, while...
