Facebook EMEA VP Nicola Mendelsohn Discusses Acquisitions Of WhatsApp, Oculus VR

By David Cohen

NicolaMendelsohn650Facebook Vice President for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa Nicola Mendelsohn discussed the company’s recent acquisitions of mobile messaging platform WhatsApp and immersive virtual reality technology company Oculus VR at the Fortune Most Powerful Women International conference in London.

According to Fortune, Mendelsohn pointed to WhatsApp’s base of more than 500 million monthly active users, many of them in developing markets, saying at the London event:

We want to make the world more connected. (It is) not the best user experience for people to just do everything in one place (on Facebook). There’s a whole new way of people communicating. (They’re) still sharing. We see that it’s mobile, and we think mobile is the platform of today.

As for the manufacturer of the Oculus Rift virtual reality gaming headset, Mendelsohn said using the device was like being “on the top of a rollercoaster,” adding, as reported by Fortune:

Imagine taking it further, and imagine how we might be teaching a room of children. If you try it, you go, “I feel the future.”
