You’re going to want to visit Lady Gaga’s fan page on Facebook after you read this post.
She announced a contest in which fans can vote for their favorite charity on Lady Gaga’s Facebook page and become eligible to win tickets to her sold-out May 9 performance. That’s a pretty cool way to get traffic to a Facebook page, right?
Each of the five selected charities offers support to disconnected youth (young people ages 16 to 24 who are not in school and not employed) in New York. These youth often lack the support required to successfully transition to adulthood–which is where charitable organizations can step in and lend a hand.
“NYC is my hometown,” said Lady Gaga in a press release, “and I think investing in these kids’ futures will go a long way.”
Candidates in the charity contest include:
- Hetrick-Martin Institute: Offering education, career development, medical and HIV prevention services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered youth.
- Lawyers for Children: Providing free legal and social work services to ensure New York youth’s access to safe housing, education and fair treatment.
- Safe Horizon: Connecting abused and homeless youth to housing, health care and government support.
- SCO Family of Services: Linking homeless youth to counseling, health care, life skills and career training.
- The Door: Giving youth a safe place to learn and grow while offering medical, social, educational, recreational and legal services.
Gaga will announce the winning charity during her May 9 performance. She’s going to donate a total of $1 million, which will include smaller grants for the four runner-up charities.
