As mobile messaging apps continue to grow in popularity, Ontario based Kik Interactive has reached a new milestone for its Kik communication platform. The app has passed more than 100 million registered users, with over 200,000 new accounts created each day.
The company attributes this massive growth in part to its Kik Cards system, which offer web experiences users can share with others within leaving the app. Users have added over 145 million Kik Cards since the feature launched.
Kik Cards can offer gaming experiences to users, or even advertising opportunities for developers. Mobile app developer Koa.la recently launched its Costume Party game on the platform, reaching more than one million users in just 22 hours.
The vast majority of Cards (83 percent) are discovered as one user sends those Cards to friends. Kik plans to reach out to additional developers and companies to help them achieve the same kind of traction on the platform.
“We couldn’t be more excited to pass the 100 million user mark and to see so many people in our community engaging with Kik Cards,” said Kik CEO Ted Livingston, in a statement. “As we continue innovating on the Kik platform, we’re looking forward to delivering more compelling Card experiences to our growing user base.”
Kik is the latest mobile messaging platform to cross 100 million users. Korea’s Kakao Talk reached that milestone back in July, while Japan’s Line and China’s WeChat have passed 150 million users and 300 million users each, respectively.
