Inauguration Will Come With Its Own Mobile App

mobile apps, President Obama’s inauguration for a second term on January 21 will be the first such event to have its own mobile app for iOS and Android.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee launched the app today. It features a schedule of events and will serve up SMS texts during the proceedings to keep users up to the minute. It will also update with photos and videos being shared by official social media accounts.

For users who plan to attend Obama’s second swearing-in, a map within the app shows the D.C. parade route, highlighting pedestrian access points. The maps also points users to first aid booths and public toilets. That information downloads with the app, so even if cell networks are overloaded in the capital on January 21, attendees will be able to get their basic needs met.

The Inaugural Committee is largely funded by individual donors, according to its own disclosures, but among the handful of corporate contributors acknowledged is AT&T, whose mobile division supports both iOS and Android devices.
