Hachette to Record Audiobooks for Blind Library Readers
Hachette Book Group (HBG) has partnered with he National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), a division of the Library of Congress (LOC) to create and distribute audiobook recordings of its books free of charge.
HBG decided to start recording these audiobooks after a reader emailed author Douglas Preston asking if his newest book would be available in the audiobook format through the Talking Books program.
By creating the recordings for them, HBG will save the LOC the time an effort it takes to create these files in-house, which they would do otherwise, as The Chafee Amendment allows organizations producing specialized formats for the blind to record audios without getting permission from the copyright holder.
