The Google Maps team has released a version of the Maps for Android, they are now up to version 5.5. The new release adds redesigned Transit schedules and Place details pages as well as the option to edit home/office address for Latitude. It is now much easier to check in/out of places, get transit schedules and rate different locations with the new Maps.
Google is always concerned about the user experience with their mobile maps. Now, this topic is taken more seriously, as there are more than 200 million users of Google Maps for mobile across different platforms and devices worldwide. Read below for more explanation about the new features in the latest version 5.5.
Check-in and rating of Places
With the new version when you will open any Place page from your mobile device, you will have an option to check into that place with Google Latitude or submit your rating for that place. The following screen shot shows the Computer History Museum page with check-in and rating options.
Update home and work address
Last month Google released the Location History dashboard for Latitude which provide detailed breakdown of where you have been spending your time. Now within Latitude, you can set different addresses to represent ‘home’ and ‘office’ and manage/track your location being mobile.
New design for Transit station pages
The Transit station pages in the new release are better organized for easy access to the information required. Each page now provides a list of upcoming scheduled departures for different lines, all the transit lines serving the station, and links to nearby transit stations. Further Google has also increased the coverage from 250 cities to more than 440+ cities in this release.
