#GivingTuesday: $46M Raised, 800 Tweets Per Minute

While Black Friday numbers were down, the third annual #GivingTuesday raised $46 million and hit around 800 tweets per minute on Tuesday.

Riding on the tails of Cyber Monday’s social appeal, the third annual#GivingTuesday was by all accounts a huge success this year. In the U.K., the Guardian reports that:

The British campaign hashtag #GivingTuesday reached over 180 million people worldwide after trending on Twitter for 11 hours. Text donations leapt by 80% for the donation platform JustGiving, and Visa Europe reported that £2,500 a minute was being given to good causes on UK Visa cards. Celebrities joined the charity frenzy, with David Tennant, Carey Mulligan and Tom Daley using tweets to encourage their followers to support #GivingTuesday.The soar in funds was not limited to large charities and donation sites. Localgiving.com, which helps smaller charities to raise money, said it had received a total of £75,736, an increase of 885% from the same date in 2013.
