Upcoming ‘Game Of Thrones’ Book To Feature Character Named After Facebook’s Dave Goldblatt

GameOfThronesAllMenMustDie650HBO drama series “Game of Thrones” has been the topic of much buzz on Facebook, with the final episode of its fourth season having aired Sunday night, and now, Facebook Product Specialist Dave Goldblatt will have a chance to be a part of that buzz, as George R.R. Martin — creator of the television series and author of the A Song of Ice and Fire books that “Game of Thrones” is based on — will add a character named after Goldblatt to an upcoming book.

ABC News reported that Goldblatt won a $20,000 prize in a charity auction benefiting Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and the Food Depot of Santa Fe, N.M., where Martin lives with his wife, Parris.

And in true “Game of Thrones” fashion, the Prizeo page for the auction said of the characters to be named after Goldblatt and another unidentified winner, “You will certainly meet a grisly death.”

Goldblatt told ABC News:

I’m just lucky enough to be in a position to do this. Obviously, the money is going to charity, so it’s an added bonus. I didn’t immediately seek to help wolf sanctuaries, but the more I read about the charities, I learned it was a worthwhile cause.

Goldblatt chose to be a “Valryian,” known for their indestructible steel used in the swords of many of the show’s characters, and he explained his decision to ABC News:

You read some piece of fiction and, for whatever reason, you think one particular character or race is cool — and for whatever reason, I thought the Valyrians were cool. I’m hoping in future books we get to see more of them.
