New York magazine’s Nymag.com joined the growing list of media entities checking in with location-based mobile app foursquare, announcing a partnership in which users who follow New York on foursquare receive tips from the magazine’s food, fashion, and nightlife editors, either when they check in to a location or when they add venues to their to-do lists.
The initiative taps the Nymag.com database of some 5,000 restaurants, 1,600 bars, 5,500 stores, and 1,200 salons and spas, with tips including recommended dishes, sales or bargains, and new treatments.
Nymag.com online general manager Michael Silberman said:
Food and restaurant coverage has been an important part of New York magazine’s DNA since its founding 40 years ago, and has evolved in the digital era to include the trusted restaurant listings at Nymag.com, with menus powered by sister site MenuPages.com. This partnership with foursquare helps bring this information, as well as our expanded shopping and beauty listings, to a tech-savvy audience that we expect to be a mix of first-time visitors to the site and those who already value us as a trusted source of information.
