FIFA 14 is the franchise’s first shot at the free-to-play market, and 26 million downloads later (iOS and Android), it’s safe to say that the transition to the new pricing model has paid off more than anyone anticipated.
In fact, the numbers are so high, FIFA 14’s launch has been the second most successful in EA history, falling just short of the numbers Plants vs. Zombies 2 put up earlier this year.
According to EA, FIFA 14 hit the #1 Top Free Games spot in 148 countries on iOS, and is also one of the Top 10 grossing games on iPhone in 115 countries.
And the number of users is only going to rise now that EA Sports’ announced today that FIFA 14 will also be coming soon to Windows Phone 8 devices above 512 MB RAM.
Looks like the world’s most popular sport will continue to live on as the world’s most popular video game for some time to come.
