An outing to a baseball game ended in tragedy Thursday night, and Facebook users were quick to pay tribute to the victim once his name was released Friday morning.
As reported by ESPN.com, 39-year-old firefighter Shannon Stone of Brownwood, Texas, died from injuries suffered when he fell about 20 feet from the stands after losing his balance while trying to reach a baseball thrown by Texas Rangers left fielder Josh Hamilton.
He was at the game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, with his six-year-old son.
Stone’s name was not released to the media until Friday morning, and posts expressing sympathy or sharing links to stories about the tragedy began to appear on Facebook almost immediately.
An RIP Shannon Stone page was also created at about 10 am EST Friday, and it had drawn more than 270 fans in a little over one hour.
