Although Facebook’s overall revenue took a hit from the fourth quarter of the 2012 fiscal year, the company earned $1.25 billion in ad revenue in the first quarter of 2013 — 30 percent of which came from mobile ads. Total revenue hit $1.46 billion, a 38 percent increase from the first quarter of 2012.
Advertising revenue in the first quarter of 2013 was down a bit from the previous quarter, which saw Facebook bring in a little more than $1.3 billion. However, it seems as if the company has become more successful in Asia, which contributed more revenue than the area did in the fourth quarter of 2012.
While overall ad revenue increased in Asia, Facebook experienced decreasing average revenue per user throughout the world.
Total revenue was also down across the world, with the biggest loss coming from the U.S. and Canada. In the fourth quarter of 2012, Facebook generated $780 million from ad revenue and developer payments. That has decreased to $679 million in the first fiscal quarter of 2013.
Facebook’s net income from operations is a slight increase from the first quarter of 2012, but a dip from the fourth quarter of 2012, when Facebook was $523 million in the black.
