The Arab news network Al Jazeera plans to launch an English-language talk show that will take cues from viewers’ posts on Facebook and Twitter.

“The Stream” promises to make of popular posts on Facebook and other social media sites to inform the content of 15-minute episodes, without entirely relying on crowdsourcing. Producers will choose topics to cover but allow the speakers to improvise rather than speak from teleprompters.

One of the show’s producers told Wired News that Al Jazeera is aiming for a younger, more technologically connected audience than most other news talk shows. Apparently the network was already planning “The Stream” before any of the political upheavals came to fruition in the Middle East, but now that these things have happened, they provide an interesting landscape of current events to address on air.

The show premieres in a couple of months, but Al Jazeera has released a promotional video about “The Stream” that certainly looks rather high-tech without actually saying much of anything. Check out the footage below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
