Facebook Profile Photos Turn Purple For Spirit Day

People are tinting their profile images purple for Spirit Day, a call to end bullying.

Anti-bullying messages are beginning to go viral on Facebook today, as growing numbers of people tint their main profile images and timeline covers purple.

The tinting comes from an application created by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation to commemorate Spirit Day.

Spirit Day calls for an end to bullying and shows support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth.

One year ago GLAAD declared October 20 Spirit Day as an effort to combat hate speech.

Facebook has become the way to rally support for the cause while also providing an ample audience of people who could benefit form the message.
