Facebookers Like Free Excerpt From Stephen King

By Jennifer Moire

A Facebook page devoted to the horror novelist Stephen King bustled with activity after a post promised a free excerpt from the audiobook version of The Wind Through The Keyhole.

This is his first self-narrated audiobook in a decade, and a Facebook post promising a free audio excerpt from this audio version generated more than 5,000 likes within a 24-hour period.

The page where this offer posted was on a page called Fans of Stephen King, which has over three million total likes.

The link to the free excerpt takes people to a portion of the Simon and Schuster website.

This promoted book is the latest installment in the author’s Dark Tower series, which appears to have revived itself years after King had previously concluded the series.

The platform behind this latest book’s marketing is Moontoast, a social media commerce start-up that promises to “turn social fans into paying customers.”

Moontoast is the only platform to offer pre-orders for the audiobook, which isn’t yet available on iTunes. The book will not be released until April 24, at which time it will be released in hardbound print and audio formats.

The Facebook play seems to be an effective way to promote The Wind Through the Keyhole to a core group of enthusiastic fans.

To further promote the exclusivity of the offering, there’s a photo posted on the Facebook fan page featuring King recording the unabridged audiobook — a screenshot of it appears below.
