Facebook is apparently testing a new way for links to become more prominent in the news feed. According to sister site Inside Facebook, the link preview image will grow from 90 x 90 pixels to 154 x 154.
The changes are expected to go live sometime Monday, but here’s what you can expect to see at some point (courtesy of Inside Facebook):
Although we don’t have a screenshot to show you just yet, the red outline shows the size of the new link preview. Not only will the image preview be much larger, but the link preview will accommodate more text. Facebook has tinkered with this as a way to make links more prevalent, as marketers have taken to leaning on photo posts for higher engagement or text posts for a better chance at placement via Facebook’s algorithm (commonly known as EdgeRank).
Inside Facebook notes that this change does not apply to links to video sites such as YouTube.
