Just because it’s homemade, doesn’t mean it stays home. The Etsy team has learned that 1 in 5 visits to the online craft and vintage marketplace is from a mobile device. Since it launched in November 2011, Etsy’s iPhone app has been downloaded 1.5 million times, which is all the more reason to keep the app running smoothly. On Thursday, Etsy released an updated iPhone app with enhanced features for both shoppers and sellers.
An enhanced activity feed makes it easier for shoppers to browse the mobile-optimized site. The activity feed is fairly social, as users can follow each other on Etsy and see the items they like from their smartphones.
The hand-made crafts and vintage finds are organized into channels like “kids” and “home,” which shoppers can bookmark so that their favorites come up first. It’s another way to streamline the results, which is important on a small screen.
Through an enhanced search tool, buyers can find other Etsy members as well as items and shops.
Inside the Etsy stores, shoppers can see the items in their local currencies. They can also access their own account information and buy items directly from their phones.
Etsy sellers often have brick-and-mortar stores and work booths at craft fairs in addition to selling online. The app lets shoppers find stores near them.
The app makes it easier for sellers to access their listings remotely. On their dashboards, sellers can see stats on their shops such as revenue, page views, and items that have been marked as favorites by other users. They can also get mobile alerts when new orders are placed.
Available on iTunes, the free Etsy app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, third and fourth generation iPod touch, and iPad. The app requires iOS 4.0 or later.
