ElfYourself Is Back…And This Time They’re Doing It Live

By Megan O'Neill

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last six holiday seasons, you’re probably familiar with ElfYouself—the OfficeMax holiday campaign that lets you put your head and your friends heads atop dancing elves to help spread holiday joy.  This year, ElfYourself is back, but they’re putting a new, fresh twist on the campaign—a live version that lets you “ElfYourself” during livestreaming broadcasts on YouNow.com.

We’ve written about YouNow before—the company launched last year at TechCrunch Disrupt as a live video entertainment platform that lets the viewers vote on who gets to stay in the spotlight and who gets the boot.  You can watch the live stream of people getting elfed at YouNow.com/elfyourself.

Additionally, Tim Nudd of Adweek’s Adfreak reports that, “in mid-December, the first ElfYourself mobile application will launch for Apple devices to ‘help holiday revelers create, share and view ElfYourself eGreetings on-the-go.’”  Users will be able to create free ElfYourself holiday eGreetings through the app.  Paying 99 cents will open up a larger number of dances.

Of course, you can still make a traditional ElfYourself video e-card at ElfYourself.com, if apps and doing it live aren’t your thing.

According to OfficeMax, “Since ElfYourself debuted in 2006, people in all 196 countries across the seven continents have used the popular holiday website to create more than 470 million customized videos.  Consumers have spent the equivalent of 7,124 years on ElfYourself.com during the 2006 to 2011 holiday seasons.”  Will you be Elfing yourself this year?

UPDATE: We previously reported that this was an OfficeMax/JibJab collaboration.  A spokesperson told us via email, “JibJab is no longer involved in the program. OfficeMax has partnered with Oddcast to develop the content for ElfYourself.”
