i-LgkGF37-ThTemple Run developer Imangi Studios and Disney Mobile are once again teaming up, this time adapting the film Oz the Great and Powerful into Temple Run: Oz.

Temple Run: Oz, unsurprisingly, blends Imangi’s hit game Temple Run with Frank Baum’s world of Oz. The game leverages the Temple Run 2 platform, which is faster and more fluid than its predecessor, and allows players to run along the Yellow Brick Road while avoiding things like snap dragons and collapsing bridges. Disney Mobile tells us each region will contain over 100 unique objectives and there’s also an extra minigame involving flying a hot air balloon.

Disney Mobile’s had good luck adapting its movies to mobile devices, and the Temple Run treatment has proven particularly lucrative. Last year’s biggest success story for the company was Temple Run: Brave, which debuted close to Brave’s theatrical release and promptly began dominating the charts. Even six months later, Disney Mobile was providing some pretty serious updates to the game.

However, some things have changed since Temple Run: Brave’s launch; namely, the “endless runner” genre has become extremely crowded over the past few months. Recent examples include Subway Surfers, Into the Dead and even Temple Run 2 are all vying for players’ attention. That said, Disney has a substantial user base to tap into and this week’s release of Oz the Great and Powerful will undoubtedly provide a publicity boost for the app (it also doesn’t hurt that Oz is the only major film receiving a wide release this week).

It seems likely that the game will move up the mobile charts in the near future, but whether or not Temple Run: Oz will prove to a lasting hit like Temple Run: Brave remains to be seen. Temple Run: Oz is out now on iTunes and Google Play for $0.99
