HOWTO: Change Your Twitter Background (Even If You Don't Know Any Graphic Design)

If you’re new to Twitter, you’re likely still rocking the default bubbly cloud background. And if you’re reading this article, it’s time for a change.

Twitter is a social network, and part of the reason people connect with you is to learn about who you are. You have several options when it comes to customizing Twitter, including uploading a photo and updating your bio. But one often overlooked area you can customize is your Twitter background.

You can use your background to represent some aspect of you. Keep it simple and professional, or dress it up for a little fun. But just be sure you change it from the default background as soon as you can, so that people know you’re serious about Twitter.

To change your background, click on your username in the top right corner of Twitter.com and navigate to your “Settings”.

From here, click on the “Design” tab.

You can choose one of the 19 pre-made themes available on this page, if you’re not the hands-on type.

However, if you want to go one step further and really customize things, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the Themeleon link. Authorize the app, and get to work!

Before you sweat, don’t worry – Themeleon doesn’t require that you know a lick of HTML or any graphic design. It’s just a point-and-click application that lets you change the background, text color, link color and sidebar color of your Twitter profile.

There are limitless combinations of colors and patterns that you can choose from. Are you a bubblegum pink kind of person? Or a black-and-white classic? However you want to express yourself, you can do it through your Twitter background.

And if you do opt to change your background, let us know (along with a link to your Twitter profile) in the comments.
