“Once upon a midnight dreary…”
Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven” is an iconic piece of gothic literature, and its undergoing a bit of a revival thanks to another feathered creature – Twitter.
Twitter’s co-founder Biz Stone has created a short film based on the text of “The Raven”, as part of Canon’s Project Imaginat10n. The film has been in the works for over a year, and it’s finally ready for the public.
Project Imaginat10n’s aim was to inspire filmmakers to use Canon DSLR cameras in their creative process. The project invited 10 filmmakers – five celebrities and five people selected a panel of judges – to create a short film based on 10 user-submitted photos each.
The films were created with the help of director Ron Howard, and feature an impressive variety, from dark and moody to cute and quirky.
Biz Stone was one of the celebrity directors, invited to participate back in August 2012 and later sharing some insights into the filmmaking process.
The result, “Evermore”, is a story of a family torn apart by tragedy, and the little girl who brings them back together using her performance of “The Raven” in a school play.
It is beautifully shot, with compelling, dark visuals, original music and emotional punches throughout.
You can watch the entire 13 minute film at Canon’s Project Imaginat10n website, and take a look at the 10 photos that inspired the narrative.
