Fashion Star Designer developer XMG Studio has launched its newest title, Dragonwood Academy: A Game of Stones. The collectible card game looks to entice players with “elegant simplicity” and “captivating art,” as users become students at the Dragonwood Academy, a wizard school for gifted youngsters. The goal of the game is to become the ruler of the school, battling schoolyard rivals and competing for bragging rights against others.

WIZ_iTunesScreenshots_iPad_02While attending Dragonwood Academy, players are introduced to the “Game of Stones,” a student pastime that sees users collecting character cards, or stones, which each offer separate abilities, like spells, and attack powers. During each one-on-one battle, stones attack one another automatically, until all units of a single team have been defeated. These actions can include both offensive attacks and healing, depending on the stones active in battle.

After each battle, stones receive experience points, and can eventually evolve into stronger units. Players will also collect treasure chests as they play, which may contain trinkets. Collect enough trinkets, and they can be turned in for a new stone. Users continue these battles until they eventually lose, and can’t change the layout of their teams until their winning streak ends.

While free-to-play, users can spend premium currency to instantly increase the health or attack stats of their stones. Users can also purchase premium stone packs, which may include stronger, or at least rare units for their team.

“Dragonwood Academy successfully bridges the gap between the collection gameplay mechanics of traditional card collection games and the game-loops of very successful casual arcade games,” says Andy Smith, Senior Producer at XMG. “Essentially boiling down the card battle experience to it’s most basic and enjoyable form. Get ready for some addictive card collecting fun – no spreadsheets required!”

Dragonwood Academy is available to download for free on iOS, Google Play and the Amazon App Store. Check back soon to follow the game on AppData, our tracking platform for mobile and social apps and developers.
