As eBooks Get Popular, Piracy Is On The Rise

Since the iPad became widely available in mid May of 2010, the demand for book piracy has increased by 20 percent, according to a new study by Attributor, a company that sells anti-piracy technology.

The report also found that daily demand for pirated book can be estimated at 1.5-3 million people worldwide and there has been a 54 percent increase in pirated eBook demand since August 2009.

The locations for illegal downloading are shifting as well. From the study: “Rapidshare’s presence as a destination for pirated e-books is diminishing.
