Airbnb Partners with NYC to Lodge Sandy Refugees in Style

By Devon Glenn

Desperate times call for fabulous measures. The City of New York has turned to apartment-swapping destination Airbnb to find free shelter for New Yorkers who are still without power on the eve of yet another storm.

Previously, Airbnb had waived its own listings fee to cut costs for stranded Sandy victims. Now they’re calling on the good citizens of New York City to open their doors for free. At the time of this post, 128 generous people had already volunteered.

Apartment donors can sign up by filling out a form online. If you’re looking for a place to stay, a link to the listings page reveals a plethora of spare beds and couches as well as empty apartments and rooms.

Bunking with these cool and quirky apartment mavens just might turn your evacuation into a staycation. A far cry from a dreary shelter, Airbnb hosts some of the most unique living spaces in the world.
